METABOLIST HOUSING: Homes That Evolve with Life
Project type
Adaptable multi-generational housing
Date
February 2023
Location
Sydney, Australia
A home should be able to change as life does. Metabolist Housing explores a residential neighbourhood where living, working and making can evolve together.
Plug-in elements allow spaces to shift between independent studios, shared homes and places of work. The proposal responds to households whose needs change across generations, with a framework that accommodates different degrees of independence and connection.
For residential development, the opportunity is a building that can support a richer mix of lives over time. Adaptability becomes part of the quality of the home: room to pursue a livelihood, welcome family or live more independently.
