CLOUD REFUGIA: Comfort against urban heat islands

Cloud Refugia offers a place to linger on a hot day: to sit in shade, feel a fine mist and spend time among flowering plants.

The proposal brings seating, planting and a misting system together in a lightweight timber landscape. Stepped surfaces create places for people alongside nesting and feeding opportunities for birds and pollinators. CNC-cut plywood components interlock without additional glue or metal fixings, allowing the structure to be dismantled and relocated.

Designed for seasonal use in public spaces, the project explores how small interventions can make outdoor life more welcoming through shade, water and a closer relationship with nature.
